Who we are

Personal-photo puzzles

When you choose a photo for Create Your Own Puzzle, the puzzle tool reads it locally in your browser tab. It does not upload the photo to the website, save it in the website database or create a link for sharing it. Personal-photo puzzles do not save a leaderboard result. Reload or close the tab to clear the puzzle; your original file remains on your device.

This browser-only behaviour applies to photos chosen with the current puzzle tool. Photo-upload and sharing links from the previous version have been retired. Expired files from that version are removed when a site request runs cleanup. Previously downloaded copies and copies in hosting backups are not recalled by retiring a link.

Nicknames and puzzle leaderboards

If you submit a qualifying score on a regular online puzzle, we store your chosen nickname, completion time and result date in the website database and display them publicly. Use a nickname rather than your real name or other personal information.

We keep the five fastest results for each puzzle, piece count, shape and image setting. Results remain until faster scores replace them; there is no fixed expiry. Older fastest-time records may also remain in the database. There is no player account or self-service result deletion. To request removal, contact Geoff and give the puzzle, nickname and time so the result can be found.

Contact Geoff

The Contact Geoff form collects the name, email address and message you enter. WordPress passes these details to the hosting email system to send the message to Geoff, with your address as the reply address. The contact form itself does not save a separate form-entry record in the website database.

Messages may be retained in email records for correspondence. We have not established a fixed deletion period for contact messages or provider mail logs. The form’s success message indicates that the form processed the request; it does not itself confirm delivery to the receiving mailbox.

Please do not send sensitive information through the form. For a privacy request, describe which comment or puzzle result you mean without including unnecessary personal details.

Newsletter signup

Newsletter forms send the information you enter to MailerLite to manage subscriptions and send puzzle or other selected updates. Forms may ask for your first name, last name and email address. The Daily Puzzle form is configured to ask you to confirm your email address; other signup forms may not require a separate confirmation. Some forms also load Google’s reCAPTCHA for spam protection.

You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter. MailerLite removes unsubscribed addresses from the active mailing list, but unsubscribing does not erase the subscriber record or its history. You can contact Geoff to request deletion of subscription information. We have not established a fixed automatic deletion period for subscriber records.

Site measurement, links and puzzle preferences

The website loads Google Analytics through Google tags and Google Tag Manager to measure how the site is used. Lasso’s performance-tracking script uses its Codedrink service to measure page and link interactions, including affiliate-link activity. Following an affiliate link takes you to the retailer or affiliate service, which handles that visit under its own privacy arrangements.

Some pages load Facebook and X sharing widgets, MailerLite forms and Google reCAPTCHA. These services receive browser requests when their embedded content loads, even if you do not submit a form or share a page. See Google’s privacy policy for its service practices.

The puzzle player saves sound, music and preview-display preferences in your browser’s local storage. The player sets no expiry for these preferences; you can clear them using your browser’s site-data controls. It does not save your chosen personal photo or leaderboard nickname in this local storage.

Comment spam checks

Antispam Bee checks comments for spam. With the current configuration, country checks can send a truncated IP address to IPLocate, and language checks can send sufficiently long comment text to Pluginkollektiv’s language-detection service. Spam comments have an 80-day cleanup rule, run through WordPress scheduled jobs; exact deletion timing depends on those jobs running. Approved comments and their stored metadata have no automatic expiry.

Hosting backups and logs

Hostinger hosts the website and provides backup and logging services. Server access logs can include the request time, IP address and requested resource; error logs record technical failures. Logs and backups may contain personal information from website use.

Deleting information from the working website does not necessarily remove every earlier backup or log copy immediately. We have not verified a single deletion period covering this site’s hosting backups, access logs, error logs and email records, so we do not promise that all copies disappear within a stated number of hours or days.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

A hash created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Visitors can download images published on the website and inspect any embedded metadata, including location information if it is present. Photos chosen for personal-photo puzzles are handled separately in the browser, as described above.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Registered users can view and edit their profile information, except their username. They can ask the site administrator to delete their account information. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
