Barbie Dolls – interesting history & facts
Barbie Dolls are 65 years old this year and there will be a new display at London’s Design Museum to celebrate.
Inspired by Bild Lili a German doll in 1955, Barbie was born in March 1959, named after Barbara – the 15 year old daughter of Ruth Handler (co-founder of Mattel toy company) who loved Lili.

- Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts and she is from Willows, Wisconsin, USA.
- Barbie & Ken split up on Valentine’s Day 2004 after 43 years of marriage…. but they still remain friends (are they on a break??)

In 2019, Ravensburger produced three puzzles to celebrate her 60th birthday. She still only looks 21 (or less)!
